Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)
Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo) is Miss Jacqueline Jarvie.
Ash Green Primary provides a fully inclusive mainstream school environment. We strive to ensure all our pupils achieve their potential academically, personally, socially and emotionally in all areas of the curriculum, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, social background, religion, sexual identity, physical or educational needs.
SEND Provision
At Ash Green Primary School, the Special Education Needs Coordinator, leadership team and teaching staff, all work closely together to ensure that the needs of all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities, are met.
At Ash Green Academy, we accommodate the needs of children with Communication and Interaction Difficulties, Cognition and Learning Difficulties, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs and Sensory and Physical Difficulties.
No pupil has ever or will ever be discriminated against on the grounds of their SEND status. We promote equality of opportunity and have taken steps to prevent any form of discrimination to ensure that every pupil receives an education that is appropriate to their needs, promotes high standards and helps them to fulfil their potential.
Identification and Assessment of Pupils with SEN
Senior leaders, class teachers, support staff and the SENCo closely track the progress of all our pupils through assessment and observation, from the Early Years through to the end of Key Stage 2.
We assess and review pupils’ progress formally every term, to monitor their academic attainment through data analysis, standardised tests and pupil progress meetings. However, the majority of our assessments will be made on a day to day basis, through observations of pupil’s behaviour for learning, fine and gross motor control, social skills and management within the classroom environment and with its routines and structure.
Sometimes a pupil may enter school with special needs, which have already been identified. In this case, the school works closely with other settings and support agencies, to be sure the correct help is in place for when the child starts at Ash Green Academy.
If you feel your child may need extra help, the first person you should discuss this with is the class teacher or Key Worker, who will talk through your child’s progress and discuss how best to support your child, both at home and at school.

Parents’ Coffee Afternoons
What to do if your child is struggling
We host Parent Coffee Afternoons each half term and dates can be found in advance on our Academic Year Planner.
Thanks to our wonderful parents and grandparents who attended our whole school Coffee Morning entitled, ‘What to do if your child is struggling.’ The PowerPoint presentation used is available for all parents to view below.
Parents were also able to view copies of the school’s updated SEN and Inclusion policy, the SEN Information report, key supporting website and app download ideas, signs of dyslexia fact sheet and a Quality First Teaching guide to what to expect your teacher to provide. All of these are available from the KS2 reception or from the SENCo on request.
