Places to our Nursery are allocated by the Local Authority. Parents are asked to contact Admissions on 01782 236867/233232 or www.stoke.gov.uk/admissions for an admission form to either Nursery or Reception.

Where there are more applications for a nursery setting than there are places the following priorities will be used, in order, to allocate places:

1. Children in the care of the local authority and children who were previously looked after but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order).

2. Children living within the catchment who have an elder brother or sister at the school who will still be attending at the time of admission (or at the linked junior school in the case of infant schools).

3. Other children living within the catchment.

4. Children living outside the catchment who have an elder brother or sister at the school who will still be attending at the time of admission (or at the linked junior school in the case of infant schools).

5. Children who live nearest to the school as determined by a straight line measurement from the child’s home address point to the main entrance of the school.

Once the class is full a waiting list based on these criteria will be held until the end of September of that academic year. It is important to consider that attendance at a particular nursery setting will not guarantee admission to a reception class at the same school. The admissions process will need to be followed the following year to apply for your child’s Reception place. As nursery education is not compulsory there is no right of appeal against the refusal of a place. However, every effort will be made to accommodate the wishes of parents.

EYFS Admissions – Reception 2026-2027

Here at Ash Green Primary Academy we have a Nursery class with 52 places and two Reception classes, each with 30 places. Children come into the Nursery class in September and they must already be 3 by the 1st September in order to be eligible for admission.

For the Reception class, children must be 4 years old by the 1st September of the year of admission. Nursery children will have their fourth birthday and Reception children will have their fifth birthday during the school year.

EYFS and Primary School admissions to Ash Green Primary Academy are handled by Stoke-on-Trent City Council. We can however offer Nursery places during the academic year, please contact the school office schooloffice@ashgreenprimary.co.uk to enquire further. Parents wishing to apply for a Reception  place must apply via the Stoke-on-Trent admissions page, for more information, please contact the school office who will inform you of the necessary actions needed.

There are two admission processes, Normal Round and In-Year.

The Normal Round process is used by families making applications for Nursery or Reception places each September.  This is a national process and is part of the Co-ordinated Admissions scheme.  Applications can be made on-line or via a paper application, all of which are handled by the Local Authority in which parents/carers live.  If you wish to apply via a paper application, this can be obtained from the school office.  The completed form will then be forwarded to the relevant Local Authority admissions department on your behalf.

The In-Year process is used by parents/carers who wish to make an application for Nursery or Reception places at any other time of the year or by parents/carers who wish to apply for their child’s place in Years 1-6.  These applications are to be made directly through the school.

Each year, the school has to determine its admissions arrangements.  Our school follows the Societas Admissions policy, underpinned by the Stoke-on-Trent Local Authority Admissions arrangements, for more information please click the links below:
