Home School Link Worker (HSLW)

My name is Miss Kessel and I am the Home School Link Worker here at Ash Green Primary Academy. I work closely with families, children and the school to provide early intervention, signposting, support and guidance during times of change, challenge or stress.

A Home School Link Worker plays a key role within the school community, helping to strengthen the relationship between home and school. As part of the school team, I am uniquely placed to understand the needs of children and their families and to offer support that removes barriers to learning.

Home–school liaison is a child‑ and family‑centred partnership that builds positive relationships, improves attendance and behaviour, and helps address family or environmental factors that may affect a child’s wellbeing or progress. Emerging difficulties can be identified early, allowing for timely, targeted support.

Support you can expect from the HSLW includes:

  • Working with individual pupils, small groups and parents

  • Supporting young carers

  • Working closely with the SENCO to support families

  • Providing bespoke nurture sessions

  • Liaising with outside agencies (school nurse, social care, CAMHS, health visitors, GPs) and signposting families to additional support

  • Supporting improved attendance

  • Helping with transition between year groups or schools

  • Supporting families in times of crisis, including home visits or in‑school meetings

  • Helping parents with form filling and practical tasks

  • Providing advice on benefit entitlement, domestic abuse, housing, health and bereavement support

  • Attending meetings with you and your child to ensure your views are heard, valued and respected

If you feel you need support (whatever the problem), please contact the school. You can call me on 01782 658 977.
