Within our EYFS department, each member of the team is fully devoted to instilling a love of learning and school life from the moment they meet their new classes, they have a fantastic understanding of the EYFS curriculum and the many needs of EYFS children. Their passion and commitment shines through daily and I am incredibly proud of the passionate, caring and skilled team that we have.
Miss Bishop (Reception teacher, EYFS leader)
I am now in my ninth year of teaching, after graduating from Sheffield Hallam in 2012 with a BA Hons in Early Years Education. I have worked in childcare settings since the age of 17 and previous to teaching at Ash Green, I have taught both Y1 and EYFS in two Stoke on Trent schools. Teaching Early Years is my passion, and I am so lucky to be able to say that I absolutely love everything about my job. During my teaching career, I have been fortunate enough to develop my skills as a leader, alongside supporting others with developing subject knowledge and their own teaching abilities. I work hard to be the best teacher that I can and will always look to develop my own skills in order to provide the best knowledge, education and care for the children that I work with. I am a firm believer that the EYFS is such an important stage in any child’s educational journey and is fundamental to developing a positive attitude to school life. I believe that if we can support children by instilling a love of learning from a young age, children can reach their potential and achieve anything that they like! Teaching is an immensely rewarding career and I could not be more proud to be a part of the Ash Green Primary Academy family. My time at Ash Green has already been incredibly supportive and has developed my teaching and leadership skills immensely, I look forward to embracing my next challenge as Assistant Head Teacher and supporting all within EYFS & KS1 with achieving the best, together.
Miss Shacklady (Reception teacher, P.E leader)
Born in Southport, I moved to Stoke-on-Trent to do a Law degree at Keele University. I then enjoyed working with families in a child protection role for three years, before re-training for my PGCE at Nottingham University in 2015. Here, I specialised in EYFS and KS1. I then undertook my first year of teaching in Year One in a school in Nottinghamshire. I joined Ash Green in 2017 where the children are exceptional, and every day is an adventure. I am particularly enthusiastic about immersive, active learning using multi-sensory approaches and the outdoors wherever possible. I think that a day without fun and laughter is a day wasted! I lead PE in school alongside Mr Wignall and Miss Gurney.
I am so very thrilled to be joining the Early Years team for September! I will work hard to facilitate a happy and smooth transition from Nursery or home to Reception. I am passionate about supporting children to have a positive self-image and to be independent, confident, happy, curious, caring and to feel valued and proud of their achievements. I promise to foster a warm and welcoming environment for children and their families.
Miss Critchlow (Nursery teacher, Computing leader)
I am new to the Ash Green team this year (Jan 2020). Prior to my appointment, I undertook 4 years at the University of Derby to study BEd Primary Education with specialisms in EYFS and Science. During this time, I was able to develop my understanding of outstanding practice within the EYFS and KS1. After graduating with First Class Honours, I worked in 2 schools across Derbyshire (Yr2/3) and Cheshire East (Reception) . I now thoroughly enjoy teaching my fabulous Nursery children here at Ash Green. Every day, I am overwhelmed by their immense desire to learn and shine. In my current role, I lead the Nursery team along with leading Computing across the school.
I am very passionate about the EYFS and self development – I’m sure my colleagues will agree that this is evidenced by my ongoing commitment to the children in my care and my dedication towards the wider team. Likewise, I have an overwhelming passion to support both student and staff wellbeing. To date, I have several Level 2 and 3 qualifications surrounding mental health and wellbeing. I am also currently undertaking Level 2 training in educational counselling. I strive to ensure our school community continues to be the larger than life and supportive family that we are.
I have an irresistible passion for Science & the natural world we live in. Each week, I look forward to undertaking Outdoor learning within our Forest School area. In regards to my own personal teaching philosophy, I believe every child deserves a chance to shine regardless of background and ability. 🌟
Outside of work, I am an avid swimmer having swam competitively for Staffordshire Moorlands from a young age. Alongside swimming, I enjoy mindfulness activities such as yoga and meditation.
Mrs Wilkie (Early Years Professional- EYP)
Hello my name is Mrs Wilkie and I am an Early Years Practitioner (EYP) at Ash Green Primary Academy. I have a BA Honours Degree in Childhood Studies and have worked as an EYP for 30 years. In a previous role I worked within Staffordshire County Council’s Early Years Advisory Team for 10 years, which involved supporting improvement strategies across a wide range of Early Years settings including childminders, private and voluntary nurseries and school based provision. More recently I have worked in local schools and have been at a Ash Green since February 2019. My experiences have given me an excellent understanding of how children learn and develop and what a good learning environment looks like. Ash Green Primary Academy is full of caring, experienced and knowledgeable staff and is a great place for children to learn grow and develop. Please do not be worried about sending your child to school for the first time. We at Ash Green take time to listen to your child during those first daunting weeks. This gives us an insight into how your child will learn best at their level and pace their likes and dislikes. We have an open door policy so if you have any questions, concerns or worries, staff will be there to offer support. This will hopefully ensure that your child will have a smooth transition between home and any other settings they visit during the day. We are all excited to meet our the new children!
Miss Plant (Early Years Professional- EYP)
Hi everyone, my name is Miss Plant. I have been a part of ash green for 15 years now. I started by volunteering in the nursery whilst doing my NVQ level 2 in childcare and the following year I completed my NVQ level 3 in childcare. I am currently an EYP in Reception and I have been in there for 11 years this year. My passion is in Early Years and helping our children to become readers and writers. Every child matters and every child has their very own amazing personalities. I am also fully qualified in paediatric first aid. Every member of staff at Ash Green has the children’s best interests at heart and I couldn’t be more proud of being a part of the ‘ash green family’. I can’t wait for many more happy years!
Mrs Chell (Early Years Professional- EYP)
Hello my name is Mrs Chell, I have been part of Ash Green Primary School for almost twenty years. After having my two children, who also attended the school, I was inspired by the morale and fantastic teaching provided for the children and decided to join the Ash Green family. I first volunteered in the Nursery whilst obtaining my NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Childcare and Education. Having had experience in Year 1 and Year 2 and after spending a number of years in Reception, this has enabled me to bring my knowledge into the Nursery setting by being aware of the next steps. As my background is in art and design I use my skills to help every child to be creative and to explore their individuality and most of all have fun, whilst learning new skills in all areas of their development. I truly believe in our school statement: “Achieving the best together”.
Miss Pearce (Early Years Professional- EYP)
Hi, I’m Miss Pearce and this will be my 3rd year at Ash Green, I am currently the Rabbit key worker in Nursery. I’ve worked in Nursery settings for the past 15 years and I am a Level 5 Early Years Practitioner. My passion has always been EYFS and making sure that our ‘little people’ get the best possible start to their school life, while planting those seeds for a love of learning! Another passion of mine is working with SEN children and parents to ensure that they also have what they need to achieve the best of their abilities while accessing the same level of education as everybody else. I have recently gained an EYFS SENCO (special education needs coordinator) qualification and hope to put this to good use with Ash Green! I am always learning and trying to further my knowledge in order to provide better opportunities for all that I work with. If you ask some of my current children (and colleagues…) they may say I’m a little crazy- but all of the best people are!
